To celebrate the state of Florida’s 500th birthday, the Florida Historical Quarterly is issuing a series of publications in 2015 to highlight the state’s remarkable history. In it’s most current publication, Volume 93, Winter 2015, Number 3, the Quarterly is focusing on the events of the 18th century. In this issue, Florida’s unique and dynamic history – and a great deal of previously unknown history – of the 18th century is brought forth by a list of Florida scholars unequaled to this day. Dr. Smith’s article, “The Failure of Great Britain’s ‘Southern Expedition’ of 1776: Revisiting Southern Campaigns in the Early Years of the American Revolution, 1775-1779,” is a classic example of the ground-breaking research that has been highlighted in these articles. It has been a great honor for Dr. Smith to be included in this select group of scholars.
